A Constant For Change…

Economy
Michigan must do more than talk about being business friendly – it must BE business friendly. The proper role of government is to implement policies that create a positive climate which stimulates business growth, investment, and job creation. Keeping taxes low and limiting burdensome regulations will ultimately put more money in everyone’s pocket. Unlike my opponent, who voted against repealing the Single Business Tax consistently since 1999 (see my website for links to specific votes), I will vote to help and encourage business to grow and create jobs for the benefit of individual working families.
Education
Throwing money at our schools is not a solution. We need our students, parents and teachers to be accountable for excellence in their education. Education begins and must be supported in the home. We as parents must take responsibility to partner with our educators. Teachers need to be equipped with all the tools necessary to achieve the desired outcome. I support providing parents and students with a wide range of educational options to best match their individual needs.
Energy
In the short term, we are going to be tied to the expansion of traditional energy sources to power our growing energy needs. In the long term, the development of bio-fuels may very well be the powerhouse that drives Michigan’s economic engine. Combine this with the development of wind farms on the Great Lakes to increase our production of electricity and we will be able to develop the technological sectors of business in Michigan to help balance our manufacturing industry with reliable sources of energy. It is not enough to just increase home heating assistance to certain individuals. We must do more to encourage the development of alternate sources of energy to create a reliable and dependable source of energy for every person.
Life
I am Pro-Life and I believe we must defend those who cannot defend themselves. Our children and our elderly are the most vulnerable in our society and we must protect them.
Criminal Justice & Law Enforcement
Providing for the safety and security of its citizens is one of the most important functions of government. As your Senator, I will support the needs of law enforcement and our criminal justice system. Also, as a woman and a Certified Firearms Instructor, I understand the importance of taking personal responsibility for your own safety. As a crime victim, I understand society's need for justice and punishment of criminals.
In addition, we must ensure that our Michigan borders are secure while implementing policies that allow our citizens to move across the border without hindrance in order to facilitate free economic trade.
